We are intrigued by the odd layouts contained in this first Bowes Company book. It was common for publishers to appropriate plans from each other including perspective renderings, then make modifications that would eliminate any copyright issue … not that most of them cared much about that. This type of piracy might have resulted in a pretty house with an utterly dysfunctional layout … notably in this plan, the strange placement of the kitchen in the upper left corner. No homemaker in her right mind would have signed off on this layout! We still like the exterior and love the side porch.
