Design No. 553B

1912 Los Angeles InVestment Co. — Practical Bungalows

This plan is not only interesting for its considerable charms, but also for its provenance. An identical house design is shown in the Lewis Manufacturing plan book for 1916 as the Alpine, which was offered through at least 1922. Though without much of the detail of the original, the essential plan is intact. (We've published the Alpine at Bungalow Home Style.) Though the designs by LA Investment Co. are attributed to the chief architect, Ernest McConnell, it's likely that draftsmen booted out in 1913 took plans with them when they found new jobs ... in this case, to Bay City, Michigan.
