The Mitchell

1936 Sears Roebuck Modern Homes

During the 1920s, one of the most popular styles was the English Cottage. That continued well into the 1930s with models such as the Mitchell, which Sears offered in 1936 as a new plan. The Mitchell, with its steeply pitched roof and double-hung windows, has a prominent forward-facing gable and a secondary gable at the entry. A half-rounded door and ornamental iron strap hinges add English style while remaining a thoroughly modern 1930s home. The chimney is reminiscent of the Cotswold Cottage with its combination of stone and brick.
